Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Sterling Heights, MI seeks an experienced plant automation and robotics engineer to design, develop and supervise automation systems, equipment and machinery. You will program robots, integrate sensors and vision, test software, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality and operations to ensure safety and reliability.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related certification or 5+ years in automotive manufacturing;

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related certification, or 5+ years in automotive manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley and Siemens).
  • Experience with robotics (ABB and Fanuc) and HMI programming.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robotic systems, equipment, and automated machinery.
  • Program and configure robots using appropriate programming languages and control systems.
  • Develop and test robotic software, algorithms, and applications.
  • Integrate sensors, vision systems, and control technologies into robotic platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and operational issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations.
  • Create technical documentation, specifications, and user manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Support installation, commissioning, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
