J+H Automation Solutions is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead control-system projects from design through startup. You will manage teams, coordinate schedules and budgets, and implement architectures for client facilities.
You will also develop PLC and HMI programs, review designs with vendors, and mentor junior staff. The role involves field support, factory and site testing, and collaboration with Sales on scope and estimating.

The Senior Controls Engineer is part of the Controls Group and reports to the Engineering Manager. The position is responsible for designing, managing, testing, implementing, and completing projects on time, under budget, and exceeding project specifications. The Senior Controls Engineer works with Project Management, Sales, Receiving, Drafting, Documentation, Purchasing, Production, and Shipping, and directly executes or supervises controls project management, panel design, wiring diagrams, hardware design, vendor/end user/consultant interaction, PLC/HMI programming, testing, and onsite support. The position supports Sales with recommended controls scope of work, control architecture solutions, and estimating, and mentors, supervises, validates designs, and provides technical guidance for others.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: manage multiple large projects; coordinate projects and resources to meet quality, schedule, and budget; direct and supervise teams; review project requirements and scheduling with customers; identify and budget scope changes with customers and project managers; work with Sales to develop control system architectures, project execution strategy, and validate labor estimates; provide technical direction, training, and mentoring of engineering and field personnel; oversee control panel design, including complete panel layout and wiring diagrams in AutoCAD, per the bid proposal; procure components and materials; work with the engineering design group on design reviews and controls hardware specifications; coordinate with the Panel Production Group on panel fabrication and assembly; develop factory (FAT) and site (SAT) test procedures and project execution task lists; technically manage controls subcontractors (drafting, programming, electrical installation, commissioning); assist crews with field device and sensor locations; review electrical installation with field electricians and supervise field installation per the drawings; develop PLC and HMI programs and configure other control system components; complete testing, debug, and startup to the customer's satisfaction; write functional descriptions, operating manuals, testing procedures, training plans, sequences of operation, and SOPs; expand and develop program templates that support customer troubleshooting and cross support among programmers; stay current on emerging technologies; help implement quality assurance processes that verify system integrity and identify failure modes before deployment; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; minimum 5 years of experience in a related field.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities: team-oriented, multi-disciplinary work; managing multiple tasks and projects; ability to travel onsite to customer facilities; expertise designing, deploying, and supporting industrial control systems; in-depth knowledge of industrial automation frameworks, methodologies, and best practices; proven analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills; leadership for mentoring, training, and developing team members; self-motivated, with the ability to assume primary responsibility for projects without supervision; excellent verbal and written communication with customers, vendors, employees, and subcontractors; proficiency in AutoCAD; some SolidWorks experience; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Preferred: Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI programming; Fanuc, Yaskawa, and/or ABB robot programming; Keyence vision programming; Inductive Automation Ignition.
Physical Requirements: occasional standing, walking, sitting, kneeling/squatting, grasping, and climbing stairs (up to 33% of the time); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs and 25 lbs or more; no lifting of 50 lbs or more.
Location: Hackett, AR, with travel onsite to customer facilities.
