Job description

J+H Automation Solutions is a full-service engineering company that specializes in industrial machine and control system design, build, and support, as well as custom material handling fabrication and installation services.

The Controls Engineer Level 1 supports our Systems and Machinery Engineering Group, reporting to the Senior Controls Engineer. In this role you will participate in the design, programming, checkout, and startup of automation control systems. This position offers significant hands‑on field experience validating complex control systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: review electrical schematics, P&IDs, panel layouts, and sequence of operations (SOO) to verify system intent; assist with design of control panels and industrial electrical schematics per the customer's specifications; assist with procurement of components and materials; assist with supervising fabrication of control panels per the drawings; review electrical installation of control systems with field electricians; assist with supervising field installation of control systems per the engineering drawings; assist with program development of PLC logic, HMI/SCADA screens, and device configurations; assist with testing, debug, and startup of systems, including point-to-point electrical checkouts, instrument calibration, and loop checks; support on‑site startup, functional testing, troubleshooting, and integrated system commissioning alongside contractors and field engineers; coordinate with field electricians and engineering staff to verify field wiring by specifications; diagnose and troubleshoot electrical wiring and PLC and HMI logic and programs; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience, one of the following): Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; Associate degree in Industrial Automation, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline with 1-2+ years of hands‑on experience; or equivalent military or trade experience (e.g., industrial electrician, Navy nuclear/electrical, certified instrumentation tech). Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client job sites.

Skills and Experience: ability to work in a team-oriented, multi-disciplinary environment; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects; good communication skills; some experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Preferred, not required: Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI programming; ABB and/or Fanuc robot programming; Keyence vision programming; Inductive Automation Ignition.

Physical Requirements: occasional standing, walking, sitting, kneeling/squatting, grasping, and climbing stairs (up to 33% of the time); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs and 25 lbs or more; no lifting of 50 lbs or more.

Location: Hackett, AR, with travel to client job sites.
