Job summary

Electric Machinery Company is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join the Service team in Minneapolis, MN. The role focuses on design solutions and field support for large industrial motors and generators, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer timelines.

The engineer will manage project lifecycles from concept to commissioning, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with sales, customers, and factory.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Sense of urgency to affect timely response and resolution to customer requests.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and proven ability to effectively deal with difficult customers.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities simultaneously with coordination, prioritization, documentation, and progress tracking.
• Strong interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to achieve customer satisfaction excellence.
• Computer literacy with knowledge of SAP, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of motors and generators, power generation systems, petrochemical operations systems, and related industry applications.
• Knowledge of SAP operating system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete lifecycle of Service engineering projects, including concept design, creating detailed drawings, manufacturing support, and field installation and commissioning.
• Deliver high enthusiasm and energy to resolve service requests and promote strong customer relationships.
• Analyze field data, recommend corrective action, and write/edit service reports on factory repairs and field service work.
• Organize and coordinate inspection, analysis, and disposition of returned equipment, parts, and material.
• Act as a liaison between the sales force, customers, users, and factory, providing technical information and assistance to sales offices, customers, and users.
• Procure controls equipment for projects as required.
• Mentor junior staff.
• Stay current on control strategies and code changes.

Position: Senior Controls Engineer

Department: Service

Travel: Up to 25% travel, domestic and international, for pre-design data gathering, installation, or troubleshooting.

Primary Objective

Provide industry-leading design solutions and service support for large industrial motors and generators to customers worldwide. Work closely with all functional areas of the business as part of a cross-functional Service team. Create cost-effective designs that meet challenging customer timelines and ensure successful installation and operation.

Physical Requirements

• Physical ability to travel within manufacturing and office facilities.
• Ability to climb stairs and move around shop machinery and in-process equipment safely.
• Ability to climb ladders, use scaffolding or catwalks to service machinery.
• Ability and willingness to wear fall protection equipment.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to travel via public, commercial, or personal transportation.
• Must be legally able to drive a vehicle in the United States.
• Willingness to travel internationally.
• Must possess a valid passport or be able to obtain one.

Salary: $80,000 - $93,000
