Job summary

Primary Objective Of Position

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for high-level execution of product design that specifies “what” is required (materials, tolerances, limits, etc.) on the product line documentation for motors, generators and magnetic drives. Supports customer orders from the proposal phase through design, development, manufacturing, testing, and field service/aftermarket phases. Works in a team environment to ensure collaboration and sharing of best mechanical engineering practices within WEG.

Major Areas Of Accountability
  • Develops and maintains Design Standards to govern conventional and computerized mechanical design analysis methods, facilitating the design process and reducing lead times.
  • Actively manages project plans for product development consistent with the overall company strategic plan, driving them to completion.
  • Provides input to management for financial planning, capital planning, and product development.
  • May supervise work activities of engineers, drafters, and other support personnel, orienting, motivating, defining design objectives, and delegating work.
  • Reviews customers’ specifications and offers technical advice. Visits customer sites to determine how to best apply machine design technology and improve machine performance.
  • Directs standardized models to substantially reduce design cost and time for products and systems.
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree required; machine design emphasis preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3+ years’ experience in the design or development of large motors and/or generators, or equal level of product complexity.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Strong design background involving mechanical structural analysis, thermal analysis using conventional and computerized methods (ANSYS, CFX).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, evaluate, and solve complex technical issues with guidance and support.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively across all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Self‑starting, results‑oriented, flexible, and a team player.
  • Can coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Can lead and interact with teams to obtain consensus, both as a team member and as an individual contributor.
  • Can efficiently and effectively manage completion of assignments through appropriate personnel.
  • Can adhere to a work schedule that may require domestic and international travel.
Physical Requirements

Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities, including climbing stairs and moving around shop machinery. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds unassisted.

Salary

$70k to $80k, will compensate with experience. Position is full-time.
