Job summary

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to own the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of US-based clients while leading the team responsible for the work. You will be the senior point of contact for clients and set the standards for the team.

This role requires technical accounting proficiency, strong English communication, and the ability to manage multiple client deadlines concurrently. Real estate experience is a strong plus as it is one of our core verticals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or Senior Controller role.
• Experience managing multiple clients, ideally in public accounting or outsourced accounting.
• Experience leading accounting teams: assigning work, reviewing it and maintaining high standards.
• Strong command of US GAAP, month-end close and financial statement prep.
• Excellent written and spoken English with the confidence to lead client conversations.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to learn new accounting platforms quickly.
• Ownership mindset with attention to detail and reliability.
• Ability to reprioritize quickly when several deadlines collide.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close, financial statements and reporting for multiple client engagements.
• Lead recurring client meetings, explain results clearly and anticipate client needs.
• Lead, coach and review the work of accountants and senior accountants.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries and workpapers before they reach the client.
• Apply US GAAP to complex transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
• Identify gaps in processes and implement cleaner, faster workflows across portfolios.
• Handle issues proactively and know when to escalate to leadership.
