Job summary

Ascension Press seeks an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP for a faith-formation organization.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Accounting, you will manage the general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls while supporting royalty and banking activities and driving improvements to systems and processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience preparing financial statements and applying GAAP.
• CPA designation preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
• Experience with inventory-intensive businesses or subscription-based revenue models preferred.
• Occasional travel to Ascension's headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly and annual accounting close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
• Maintain the general ledger integrity and proper account balances.
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for GAAP/income-tax basis reporting.
• Perform accounting activities including inventory, cost of goods sold, royalties, revenue recognition, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses.
• Review AP/AR, cash application, and collections, resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare documentation for external reviews and tax filings.
• Manage royalty accounting, banking operations, internal controls, and system/process improvements.
• Collaborate with Director on financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
