Job summary

Ascension Publishing Group in St. Louis, MO seeks a Director of Finance & Accounting to guide the integrity of our financial operations and deliver strategic insights aligned with our mission.

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls, while partnering with leaders across the organization to drive efficient and compliant processes. This senior role requires 10+ years and CPA is preferred, with occasional travel to headquarters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience as Controller, Director of Accounting, Director of Finance, or senior financial leadership.
• CPA designation preferred.
• Occasional travel to Ascension’s headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Accounting team with clear responsibilities and performance standards.
• Own the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of accounting operations including general ledger, monthly close, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Maintain strong accounting controls, including segregation of duties, banking security, transaction approvals, and independent verification of payments.
• Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures, identify financial risks, ensure GAAP and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with external accountants on reviewed financial statements, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
• Lead improvements to accounting systems, automation, and reporting to support Ascension's growth.
