Job summary

Brookfield Residential is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the Washington DC Division's homebuilding accounting, ensuring GAAP compliance, internal controls, and insightful financial reporting. You will collaborate with operations and leadership to support budgeting, forecasts, and strategic initiatives.

Ideal candidates bring 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience in homebuilding, strong communication skills, and a proactive, team-oriented approach to drive process improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience leading to a senior role; preferably in homebuilding.
• Strong understanding of homebuilding accounting including job cost, WIP, inventory, close entries, cost of sales and budgets.
• Experience leading month-end/quarter-end close and reviewing detailed accounting work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day homebuilding accounting ensuring GAAP compliance.
• Lead monthly close, including cost of sales, inventory, WIP, and journal entries.
• Review monthly/quarterly financial reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Evaluate processes and internal controls to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
• Support budgets, forecasts, and five-year plans with variance analysis.
• Collaborate with Land Development, Construction, Purchasing, and Sales teams.
