Job summary

West Michigan Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented Controller to lead accounting operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and deliver accurate financial reporting for informed decision-making. The role collaborates with the CFO on ALM and investments, overseeing a team and coordinating with auditors.

The ideal candidate brings 8–10 years in accounting, a CPA or progress toward CPA, and strong regulatory knowledge for credit unions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred.
• 8–10 years of accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution or credit union.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements for credit unions.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure GAAP/compliance.
• Oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and support strategic planning.
• Supervise and develop accounting team.
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, GL, and reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate, timely financial statements for management and Board.
• Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure policy/regulatory compliance.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
• Provide recommendations based on financial monitoring.
• Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory examiners.
• Ensure compliance with BSA/AML, OFAC, and other regulations.
• Support CFO with ALM and investment activities.
