Position Overview

The Senior Controller leads the financial operations at Advanced, ensuring the complete integrity, accuracy, and compliance of our financial statements.Reporting toexecutive leadership, this role manages the corporate accounting team and delivers high-level financial analysis to drive business performance. The Senior Controller will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership—transforming financial data into strategic insights that enhance profitability, strengthen cash flow, andoptimizemulti-state operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis

• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights to management on key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
• Prepare and present monthly financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS, as applicable) and company policies.
• Manage the company’s general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and in accordance with accounting principles.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the President, CEO, COO and department heads.
• Prepare and monitor rolling forecasts to identify financial trends and potential risks.
• Provide recommendations for improving profitability and cost management based on budget analysis.

Cash Flow and Treasury Management

• Manage cash flow, including the monitoring of cash balances, accounts payable, and receivable. Maintain a 13 week rolling cash flow model to help leaders make smart spending decisions.
• Work with the company leadership to optimize working capital and improve cash management processes.
• Oversee credit and collections to minimize bad debt and maintain optimal customer credit levels.
• Manage debt compliance by tracking loan covenants and forecasting the Fixed Charge Coverage Ratio (FCCR) to prevent potential breaches. Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with all banking institutions. Partner with executive leadership to deliver timely financial direction and execute swift corrective measures when necessary.

Internal Controls and Compliance

• Establish and enforce internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
• Conduct regular finance and payroll audits and ensure compliance with all tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements (federal, state, and local).
• Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure the timely completion of year-end audits.

Team Leadership and Development

• Supervise and mentor a team of accountants and finance staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff.
• Manage the performance review process for accounting team members, setting goals and ensuring accountability.

ERP and Systems Management

• Oversee the company’s NetSuite Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, ensuring that financial data is accurate, timely, and accessible.
• Recommend and implement system improvements to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.

Strategic Financial Support

• Partner with the senior management team to provide financial insights and recommendations for strategic decisions, including pricing, product mix, and expansion.
• Assist in mergers, acquisitions, or other business development activities as needed.
• Evaluate and implement cost-saving measures to improve the company’s financial health.
• Support sales strategy and bid documents for new work.

Tax Management

• Oversee the preparation of tax filings (federal, state, and local), ensuring accuracy and compliance with all tax laws.
• Work with internal accounting team and external tax advisors to optimize the company’s tax position and ensure timely filing.

Risk Management and Insurance

• Assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Oversee the company’s insurance programs, including liability, property, and workers' compensation insurance.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required)
• CPA or CMA certification (required)
• MBA or equivalent advanced degree (preferred)

Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role (preferably in service based, or a related field).
• Proven experience in managing accounting functions for a company with revenues of $50 million or more.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Previous experience with an ERP system (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics) is highly preferred.
• Experience in the contract janitorial, facilities services, or a similar service-based industry is strongly preferred.
• Ideal candidates will have experience supporting a large, geographically dispersed workforce and navigating frequent contract transitions, account start-ups and closures, employee transfers, workforce reductions, and other employment changes inherent in a contract-based service environment.
