Job description

Compensation: Total Comp $150,000–$165,000 annually

Please Note: This is hybrid leadership position. Candidates must currently reside in South Florida and be able to work onsite and travel between operating locations as needed. Remote and out-of-state candidates will not be considered. No agencies, please.

The Opportunity

A growing, multi-location residential services company is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Controller to lead its accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning and analysis functions.

The organization is entering its next stage of growth, driven by a combination of organic expansion and acquisitions. The Controller will play a critical role in strengthening the financial infrastructure, improving reporting and visibility into business performance, integrating newly acquired operations, and helping leadership understand not only what happened financially, but why it happened and what actions should follow.

This is an ideal opportunity for a commercially minded Controller who enjoys being close to the business. We are looking for someone who can ensure the integrity of the financials while also analyzing trends, challenging assumptions, improving forecasts, and partnering with operational leaders to drive stronger performance.

This is a hands‑on role in a growing organization. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working through the details of a month‑end close, analyzing branch profitability, improving a forecast, integrating an acquisition, or helping an operational leader understand the financial impact of a business decision.

What You’ll Be Trusted With
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and oversee consolidated financial statements across multiple entities and operating locations.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
  • Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP and established company policies.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and other core accounting functions.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and external financial reporting requirements.
  • Continuously improve the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of the close and reporting processes.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling financial forecasts throughout the year.
  • Prepare monthly budget‑to‑actual reporting and provide meaningful variance analysis.
  • Analyze revenue, gross margin, labor, operating expenses, EBITDA, cash flow, and other key financial drivers.
  • Develop and maintain branch‑and‑location‑level P&Ls to provide greater visibility into operating performance.
  • Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and translate findings into actionable recommendations using PowerBI and other platforms.
  • Partner with operational leaders to understand performance gaps and develop plans to improve results.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support business decisions and growth initiatives.
  • Create dashboards and management reporting that provide leadership with timely visibility into financial and operational performance.
Operational Finance & Business Partnership
  • Build strong relationships with operational and functional leaders across the organization.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the operational drivers behind financial results.
  • Partner with leadership to improve profitability, productivity, labor management, and cost control.
  • Analyze performance across locations and identify meaningful differences in revenue, margin, labor utilization, and operating expenses.
  • Strengthen job costing, revenue recognition, inventory, purchasing, and other accounting processes relevant to a field‑based service organization.
  • Help leaders move beyond simply reviewing financial statements to understanding the operational actions driving the numbers.
M&A & Integration
  • Support financial and accounting due diligence for potential acquisitions.
  • Lead financial and accounting integration activities following completed acquisitions.
  • Integrate acquired businesses into established accounting policies, close processes, chart of accounts, systems, budgeting, and reporting standards.
  • Establish consistent financial reporting and KPI measurement across acquired locations.
  • Help develop repeatable processes that allow future acquisitions to be integrated efficiently as the organization continues to grow.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Serve as a key owner of financial data, reporting, and accounting workflows within Sage Intacct.
  • Ensure accurate integration and reconciliation of financial information between accounting and operational systems.
  • Experience with ServiceTitan or similar field‑service management platforms is highly valued.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve financial reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strengthen financial controls and processes while maintaining an appropriate level of structure for a growing organization.
  • Improve reporting capabilities so leadership has timely and reliable information for decision‑making.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team while establishing clear expectations and accountability.
  • Assess team responsibilities, workflows, and capacity as the organization grows.
  • Create a culture of accuracy, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and partnership with the business.
  • Build scalable processes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with meaningful responsibility for month‑end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • 3+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable financial leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and accounting operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, and management reporting.
  • Ability to translate financial results into meaningful insights and recommendations for operational leaders.
  • Experience working within a multi‑location and/or multi‑entity organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting an acquisitive or rapidly growing organization is highly valued.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ServiceTitan or another field‑service management platform is a plus.
  • Background and experience using PowerBI is a plus
  • Experience within residential or commercial services— including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, facilities services, construction services, or other field‑based businesses— is highly valued but not required.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong overall financial systems aptitude.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and build scalable financial practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both financial and non‑financial leaders.
The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You are an accounting leader who also thinks like a business partner.

You care deeply about accurate financials and strong controls, but your contribution doesn’t end when the books close. You want to understand why the business performed the way it did, where performance is trending, and what leadership can do differently.

You are comfortable asking questions, digging into the details, challenging assumptions, and working directly with operational leaders.

You enjoy growing environments where everything may not yet be perfectly structured. Rather than being frustrated by that, you see an opportunity to build better processes, improve visibility, and create a stronger financial foundation for continued growth.

Most importantly, you bring a strong sense of ownership and accountability and want to have a measurable impact on the performance of the business.

What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary of $150,000–$165,000
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • 401(k)
  • Opportunity to play a meaningful financial leadership role in a growing, acquisition‑oriented organization
