Job summary

Washington Conservation Action seeks an experienced writer and editor to support our communications work. The Content Senior Manager will write and manage content for WCA’s channels, drive media strategy, review content, and provide copy edits while collaborating with staff to develop stories.

The role partners with staff and coalition members to advance environmental progress, justice, and democracy, reporting to the Communications Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related degree.
  • At least four years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, or media.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Ability to create high-quality content under deadline pressure.
  • Commitment to environmental protection, tribal sovereignty, and racial, social, and economic justice.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Experience using Word for collaboration and tracking changes.
  • Experience driving policy-focused media campaigns and shaping coverage.
  • Experience in journalism.
  • Experience using InCopy.
  • Experience using Asana for project management.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit high-quality content for print and digital channels with an environmental justice lens.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director on media relations, press releases, pitches, op-eds, and letters to the editor.
  • Author stories for Convene magazine, conduct interviews, draft and edit features.
  • Maintain a common voice across media and uphold the style guide.
  • Advise on content for fundraising and storytelling integration.
  • Provide real-time copy-editing support for external communications.
  • Maintain a content library for internal use.
  • Develop proactive media outreach strategies and secure feature stories.
  • Build relationships with media contacts and advise on media strategy.
