Job summary

Weeks Marine and Kiewit are seeking a Safety Specialist to manage and audit environmental health and safety programs on major marine construction projects in NY/NJ/CT. The role focuses on reducing hazards, data analysis, and regulatory compliance while supporting client requirements.

The position offers a full-time role with base pay around $90,000–$94,000 per year. A CSP/CHST or OSHA 30 and 5–7+ years of heavy civil safety experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field.
  • CSP or CHST preferred; OSHA 30.
  • 5-7+ years of safety management on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • MS Word and Excel proficiency.
  • CPR/First Aid preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level.
  • Recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Routinely inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coaching employees on correct behaviors.
  • Developing environmental health and safety training materials including manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Developing a paperwork management system to track training records and safety initiatives.
  • Interpreting safety regulations for the project.
  • Coordinating and presenting safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout and repertoire.
  • Interfacing with OSHA inspectors during site visits.
