Job summary

Southland Industries in California is seeking a Senior Purchasing Agent to manage procurement for active construction projects. You will oversee purchase orders, supplier coordination, material tracking, and rental equipment coordination to keep schedules on track.

The role uses COINS ERP and other purchasing tools to maintain pricing records, monitor backorders, and support Project Managers. Strong organization, analytical skills, and collaboration with field teams and accounting are essential

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED required.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in purchasing or customer service support.
• Understanding of purchasing practices and systems preferred.
• Mechanical construction experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while planning and executing timely, effectively, efficiently, and accurately.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, quality-oriented, and strong attention to detail required.
• Experience with Microsoft Suite- specifically Excel, database software, and experience using ERP software. (COINS preferred)
• Ability to work in a continuous improvement environment.
• Ability to work effectively with suppliers, customers, project management team, field staff, and accounting in a team environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• On-site project purchasing and placing orders.
• Partners with suppliers to follow up on delivery dates, lead times, and back orders.
• Maintains supplier pricing and vendor information in the ERP system (COINS preferred).
• Prepares bids and RFQs for quotations to vendors.
• Reviews project material requirements and coordinates materials with vendors.
• Processes material receivers and coordinates bulk deliveries to meet deadlines.
• Manages purchase orders from procurement through delivery, including returns and credits.
• Researches market sources to obtain cost-effective pricing.
• Identifies cost-saving opportunities and alternate suppliers/products.
• Negotiates pricing with vendors as needed.
• Consults with vendors to discuss company needs and approval procedures.
• Supports RFQs/RFPs and tracks onsite rental equipment.
• Assists Project Managers with equipment purchases.
• Provides guidance to less-experienced Purchasing staff.
