Job summary

Southland Industries in California is seeking a Senior Purchasing Agent to manage procurement for active construction projects. You will coordinate with project teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective purchasing and adherence to schedules.

This role handles PO processing, supplier coordination, material tracking, rental equipment, and inventory transactions using COINS ERP, with a focus on backorders, pricing accuracy, and driving cost savings.

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED required.
• 5–7 years of purchasing or customer service experience.
• Experience with ERP systems; COINS preferred.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
• Mechanical construction experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• On-site project purchasing and placing orders.
• Coordinate delivery dates, lead times, and back orders.
• Maintain supplier pricing and vendor data in COINS.
• Prepare RFQs and RFPs; submit to vendors.
• Review material requirements and coordinate with vendors.
• Process material receivers and bulk deliveries.
• Manage purchase orders from procurement through delivery.
• Research market sources for cost-effective pricing.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternate suppliers.
• Negotiate pricing with vendors.
• Support RFQs/RFPs and on-site rental equipment.
• Assist Project Managers and Project Engineers with equipment purchases.
• Provide guidance to junior Purchasing employees.
