ESP Associates has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Construction Manager to support and grow our Project Management & Construction Management Business Unit in the Carolinas market.

The Senior Construction Manager is a management level position within ESP. This role oversees large construction projects and program subsets of the construction management work group. The role involves leadership in construction management initiatives aligned with the company's strategic plan. Responsibilities include resource allocation, project tracking and reporting, risk management, schedule monitoring, budget management, quality assurance, contract administration, and project management. The position also involves planning for project success across all phases—financing, permitting, design, construction, startup, and operations—and participating in business development activities such as proposals, client meetings, interviews, and presentations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned. Duties are varied and include:

  1. Manage risk across large industry-sector projects, delivering world-class projects to ESP clients.
  2. Implement, manage, and oversee quality assurance and control programs on assigned projects, translating these programs company-wide as applicable.
  3. Develop a high-performing team through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring. Recruit, attract, retain, and motivate staff. Ensure regular and timely feedback.
  4. Complete employee performance appraisals through direct reviews or 360-degree reviews.
  5. Participate in the company's safety program. Monitor and enforce best practices. Maintain safety training (OSHA, open trench, confined space, etc.).
  6. Provide senior leadership support on projects, ensuring successful completion within scope, maintaining profitability, and managing staff effort.
  7. Offer owner’s representative, program, and project management services across various project types and sectors.
  8. Proactively administer contracts and project controls, ensuring work products meet quality standards.
  9. Resolve field issues, respond to contractor claims, review work plans and schedules, and manage compliance.
  10. Attend and lead project progress meetings, supporting staff throughout project delivery.
  11. Ensure policies and procedures are followed and updated by team members.
  12. Track and control risks, schedules, and costs to complete projects within time and budget.
  13. Demonstrate experience with industry delivery models like CM/GC, CMaR, Design/Build, DBB, P3, etc.
  14. Participate in strategic planning, long-term growth initiatives, and company meetings.
  15. Report regularly to senior leadership on project status, profitability, risk, and client relationships.
  16. Identify and develop new business opportunities; maintain and grow existing client relationships.
  17. Assist in creating proposals, marketing materials, and responses to RFPs.
  18. Set team goals, monitor progress, and evaluate results to meet organizational objectives.
  19. Ensure timely invoicing, accurate cost reporting, and budget management for projects.
  20. Engage with industry networks and associations, representing the company.
  21. Perform other related duties as assigned, including ensuring compliance with safety practices and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 12 years of experience in civil engineering or construction management, especially in risk management and schedule control for infrastructure and transportation projects.
  • Strong skills in project design and construction coordination among Owner, Engineer, and Contractor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Experience with construction project delivery, document control, reading plans, change management, stakeholder meetings, RFIs, submittals, and field issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction principles in heavy civil, commercial, water, wastewater, pipelines, telecommunications, and road/bridge sectors.
  • Leadership skills to foster teamwork, develop relationships, mentor, and train staff.
  • Ability to analyze engineering data, generate reports, and manage budgets and contracts.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
