Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to be based in Orange, CA. Under minimal supervision, you will lead a team of engineers and inspection staff and perform complex field inspections of electrical installations and traffic-signal infrastructure.

You will verify materials, submittals and AML compliance, oversee trenching and backfill, and ensure safety and quality standards per Caltrans guidelines. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BA/BS + 8years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
• US Citizenship is a requirement for this role.
• Preferred: PE license in California or ICC Construction Inspector certification
• Preferred: specialized certifications in traffic signal inspection or electrical systems inspection
• Experience with Caltrans AML verification and material submittals
• Proficiency with construction management software and inspection documentation tools
• OSHA 30-Hour certification or equivalent safety training
• Experience with foundation inspection, concrete testing, and rebar placement verification
• Familiarity with video detection systems and detector loop installation standards
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and team coordination

Responsibilities

• Perform continuous field inspection of electrical installations, including traffic signal poles, mast arms, foundations, street lights, pull boxes, conduit runs, and detector loops/video detection systems.
• Inspect foundation excavation, rebar cage placement, concrete pours, anchor bolt alignment, and curing for traffic signal and street light standards per Caltrans/County Standard Plans.
• Oversee trenching, backfilling, subgrade compaction, and resurfacing for underground electrical utilities and duct banks within public rights-of-way.
• Verify proper wiring, splicing, conductor color coding, ground rod installation, grounding systems, and service cabinet/meter main hookups.
• Perform pre-installation material inspections to confirm that products (luminaires, signal heads, controllers, cables) match approved submittals and meet the Caltrans AML.
