Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Transportation Highway/Roadway Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of mid‑ to large‑scale roadway projects in the Orange, CA office. This role requires strong technical leadership and the ability to deliver high‑quality solutions compliant with Caltrans and local agency standards.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree with eight+ years of transportation experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Minimum eight years of transportation engineering experience.
• PE license preferred; ability to obtain California licensure within 12 months.
• Experience delivering Caltrans highway projects (Southern California preferred).
• Proficient with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in marketing and business development, including proposal support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Lead Engineer on mid‑ to large‑scale highway and roadway projects.
• Provide technical leadership throughout project development, from studies through final design.
• Review, approve, and sign engineering work as required.
• Perform quality control and quality assurance reviews of work prepared by others.
• Develop Caltrans and Greenbook‑compliant design packages, including plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Prepare engineering cost estimates, schedules, and budgets for large projects.
• Present complex technical concepts and design solutions to clients and stakeholders.
• Contribute to the preparation of technical proposals and presentations.
• Mentor and guide staff, promoting technical excellence and professional development.
• Participate in professional organizations and support business development efforts as needed.
