Job summary

City of Tampa seeks a Construction Inspector Specialist (Construction Inspector IV) to perform highly technical inspections of residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with Florida codes and city ordinances. This role requires reviewing plans, coordinating with engineers, and enforcing safety standards on site.

You must have four years of construction experience, Florida driver’s license, and progress toward a state inspector license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from anaccredited high school and four years of experience in building and site construction practices.
• Preferred: two (2) years college level course work in construction, engineering, architecture or related field.
• Construction Inspector II, III and IV: one (1) year of experience in application of municipal and state codes, laws, rules and regulations.
• Department is currently in need of applicants with prior experience in Electrical and Mechanical construction!

Responsibilities

• Performs required inspections of foundations, concrete slabs, beams, pilasters, steel placement, framing, insulation, roofing, and related construction work.
• Inspects mechanical, electrical, plumbing, gas and solar energy equipment and systems and site construction to ensure compliance with codes.
• Orders cease in operations if installations do not conform to codes and verifies permits and licenses.
• Maintains inspection records, prepares reports and communicates findings to contractors, engineers and owners.
