Job summary

HNTB is seeking a Field Inspector to manage daily inspection efforts on complex infrastructure projects across Virginia. You will prepare daily/weekly reports and assist in pay estimates with contractors, ensuring adherence to plans and specifications.

The role requires a high school diploma with extensive construction experience, relevant certifications, and the ability to coordinate with contractor teams. A shift schedule, exposure to weather, and lifting duties are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent with 9 years construction-related experience.
• All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Proficient use of Word and Excel.
• Coordinate with contractors’ staff and communicate effectively with all parties.
• Produce thorough inspection reports and maintain detailed records.
• Prepare and monitor internal project controls for field personnel.
• Able to lift 25lbs.
• Experience working on VDOT projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress to ensure compliance with schedule and specs.
• Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan and contract.
• Performs sophisticated calculations, constructability reviews, and measurements of completed work.
• Reviews Inspector’s daily report and verifies labor, equipment, and materials.
• Performs on-site material testing and creates as-constructed sketches.
• May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train staff inspectors.
