Job summary

HNTB Corporation is seeking a skilled Field Inspector to support daily inspection efforts on complex infrastructure projects. You will document work, verify conformance with plans, and prepare essential reports for contractor pay estimates.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent with 9 years construction experience.
  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and documents contractor work to ensure schedule and specs compliance.
  • Advises contractor superintendent to achieve plan conformance.
  • Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with the contractor.
  • Presents daily reports and assists in pay estimate review for accuracy.
  • Performs on-site material testing and creates as-constructed sketches.
  • Mentors staff inspectors and may lead daily assignments.

With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.This opportunity entails being responsible for daily inspection efforts on multiple complex, large, and /or diverse projects. Prepares daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractor and reviews periodical pay estimates with contractor for accuracy. Prepares sketches and assembles data for Field Engineer to utilize when making changes to the project. May participate in the mentoring, development, and evaluation of staff inspectors.What You'll Do:Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract. Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.Reviews Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketchesMay lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.Performs other duties as assigned.What You'll Need:High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 9 years of construction related experience.All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.What You'll Bring:Coordinate with contractors’ staff, communicate effectively with all parties and good interpersonal skillsVerify the implementation of contract documentsProduce thorough inspection reports and maintain detailed records of work performedPrepare and monitor internal HNTB project controls for field personnelProduce and maintain punch listProactively recognize complex construction or engineering problems and bring to resolution with contractorApply standard testing techniques and procedures for the verification of materialWhat We Prefer:Four year degree strongly preferredDriver’s LicenseProficient use of Microsoft Word and ExcelExperience working on VDOT projects preferredWorking knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual and Inspector ManualAble to read and interpret complex plans, specifications, and shop drawingsAble willing to work a shift schedule and/or flexible schedules as required to support the workload, as well as in inclement weather, heights, confined spaces and marine environmentsAble to lift 25lbsAbility to multitaskCertifications:ACI Field TechnicianDEQ Erosion and Sediment Control InspectorDEQ Stormwater InspectorOSHA 10 Hour Safety TrainingNuclear Gauge Safety TrainingVDOT Asphalt Field I and IIVDOT FlaggerVDOT Guardrail (GRIT)VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic ControlVDOT Pavement MarkingVDOT Slurry SurfaceVDOT Soils & AggregateAdditional InformationClick here for benefits information: HNTB Total RewardsClick here to learn more about Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/VeteranVisa sponsorship is not available for this position.#JS.Locations:Arlington, VA (Alexandria), Fredericksburg, VA, Glen Allen, VA (Richmond), Salem, VA, Virginia Beach, VA...............The approximate pay range for Virginia is $40.08 - $72.10.
