Job summary

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is seeking a General Construction Inspector to perform high-level engineering inspections on statewide construction projects in Austin, TX. Responsibilities include reviewing plans, verifying code compliance, and producing clear inspection reports with independent judgment.

Minimum qualifications include high school or GED, ICC certifications, and a Texas driver’s license; a Bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or GED.
• Five years of experience as a Superintendent OR Inspector of multi-disciplinary projects; OR five years in construction inspections with ICC certifications.
• Must possess or obtain a class "C" Texas driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
• Must possess ICC certifications in Commercial/Residential Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical Inspector, or Building Official/Plans Examiner.
• Substitution: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Construction/Electrical/Architecture Engineering may substitute for the experience and ICC certificates.
• Two additional years of experience beyond the requirement in construction preferred; licensure options include ICC Code Certification or Texas Master licenses.

Responsibilities

• Inspect statewide Capital Construction and Minor Repair projects for compliance with plans and codes.
• Review plans and specs for errors and code violations.
• Produce timely inspection reports with accuracy and clarity.
• Exercise independent judgment and adhere to agency rules and procedures.
• Provide guidance to less-tenured staff and conduct training as needed.
