Job summary

City of Longview is seeking a Municipal Inspector to perform engineering inspections of public infrastructure and private development projects, in the field and in-office, to ensure compliance with applicable standards. The role conducts COP/erosion inspections, reviews plans, maintains records, and communicates with developers and contractors on inspection findings and inquiries.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with two years of engineering inspection experience, or an equivalent education/experience combination.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections of municipal capital improvement projects, public infrastructure construction, and/or private development projects.
• Inspects public streets, driveways, utility mains, and/or other infrastructure.
• Performs Certificate of Occupancy (COP), erosion control, and/or other types of inspections.
• Reviews project plans and monitors for contractor compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, project specifications, and quality standards.
• Prepares and maintains inspection records, reports, and documentation.
• Communicates with developers, contractors, and/or other parties regarding inspection issues and/or other construction matters.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints involving projects and/or inspection activities; assists with complaint investigations as required.
• Participates in reviewing/approving engineering plans and development permits.
• Assists with floodplain management activities as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years experience conducting engineering inspections; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

• Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field.
• Subject to sitting, standing, walking on uneven terrain, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
• Exposure to variable weather conditions, general construction hazards, heavy equipment, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases is involved.
