Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Construction Inspector I–IV to inspect construction methods and workmanship for roadways, bridges, aviation and related structures. You'll act as consultant on progress, resolve issues, and help ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

May drive a state vehicle and coordinate with engineers, contractors and inspectors. Positions require varying experience levels and a pre-employment physical; benefits include retirement plans, flexible

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
• Experience levels are stated for Inspector I–IV with increasing requirements.
• Competencies include plan/spec review, inspection methods, testing methods, reading plans and maps.

Responsibilities

• Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.
• Inspects roadways, bridges and related structures per plans and specs.
• Observes ongoing construction work and prepares estimates.
• Reviews construction records and inspection reports for accuracy.
• Attends pre-construction meetings and answers contractor questions.
• Establishes effective communication with project engineers and inspectors.
