Job summary

The Georgia Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering Services seeks an experienced Estimator to prepare Initial Engineer’s Estimates for bridges, corridors, and other projects in Atlanta, GA. This role serves as a technical expert and liaison between District Construction Estimators and the Engineering Services Lead and Chief Estimators.

Responsibilities include value analysis, market research for materials and labor, and site inspections to refine estimating tools and practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field with 1 year related experience, or an Associate degree with 2 years.
Ability to read and interpret plans, contracts, and technical documents.
Experience developing construction cost estimates.
Travel ability to visit construction projects and conduct site inspections.

Responsibilities

Develop initial engineer’s estimates for various project types of moderate complexity.
Serve as technical expert to Districts and liaison between District Construction Estimators and Engineering Services Lead and Chief Estimators.
Assist other Engineering Services Estimators as needed.
Conduct value analysis of plans and construction projects and develop detailed estimates for funding authorization and bid evaluation.
Perform market research to check prevailing material and labor prices and advise on cost trends.
Make site inspections to assess practices and revise estimating tools and processes.
