Majority Builders, Inc. seeks a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commercial, industrial, retail, medical, and institutional construction background. You will be key in project evaluation, cost estimating, and pre-construction planning. This position requires excellent analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of construction processes, and strong communication and negotiation abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Meet with clients to understand project goals, budgets, and timelines.
• Evaluate drawings and specifications to develop accurate time, labor, materials, and equipment estimates.
• Offer alternatives for construction methods and materials to optimize value and cost.
• Recommend practical, cost-effective solutions based on sound construction practices.
• Build strong working relationships with architects and engineers to support design-build efforts.
• Develop bidders’ lists, issue bid invitations, and solicit multiple quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Lead value engineering efforts when initial project costs exceed budget, presenting scope and cost options to clients.
• Generate and manage contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
• Break out estimates by cost codes and coordinate with accounting for project setup.
• Lead project hand-off meetings with clear scope summaries and key information for project managers and site supervisors.
• Assist project teams throughout construction with clarifications, scope tracking, and issue resolution.
• Develop detailed estimates, preliminary schedules, and cash flow projections.
• Secure insurance and bonding quotes during bidding; obtain bonds and certificates upon award.
• Think creatively about bid strategies to improve competitiveness and profitability.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and job site walk-throughs.
• Manage your time effectively between preparing estimates and engaging with qualified subcontractors.
• Review plans, coordinate RFIs, and facilitate information flow during pre-construction.

Design|Build Duties

• Collaborate with in-house and external designers to define scope and construction strategy.
• Provide early-phase cost input and recommend solutions aligned with client priorities.
• Prepare full project estimates based on preliminary plans and limited information.
• Fill in scope and pricing gaps when subcontractor quotes are unavailable due to schedule constraints.
• Confidently price design-build projects based on partial information to ensure cost certainty and project success.

Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
• Extensive knowledge of construction methods, cost controls, and procurement strategies.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a collaborative team setting.
• Experience with project management and pre-construction principles.
