Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Washington, DC seeks an experienced in-house Counsel to provide day-to-day guidance on contracts and construction law for multiple business units. You will assess risk, draft and review agreements, and support bids and project execution.

The ideal candidate has a JD, a law license, at least five years in construction law, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Travel is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• JD degree with a valid law license.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with construction law.
• Self-starter with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and applicable legislation.
• Proven written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and legal case management systems.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts and insurance documents.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and risk assessments across contracts/construction law.
• Advise business partners on legal, contractual and risk matters.
• Analyze and summarize legal documents and complex transactions.
• Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems.
• Conduct and compile diligence documents.
• Review owner contracts and support bidding/negotiation processes.
• Review routine project-related agreements and change orders.
• Partner with lead counsel on contested matters.
• Manage litigation and disclosures for RFQ/RFP responses.
• Partner with Corporate Secretary regarding resolutions to accompany bids.
• Deliver legal training on topics and ethics/compliance.
• Develop inputs to capture market trends and improve processes.
• Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
