Job summary

CFS in Abington, MA is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function for a contracting organization. The role oversees financial reporting, job costing, WIP, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow while partnering with Project Managers on profitability and cost-to-complete analysis.

The ideal candidate has 5–7+ years in accounting within construction, strong Excel and leadership abilities, and is able to work 100% onsite in Abington, MA. Competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Contracting industry experience required.
• Strong understanding of union and certified payroll requirements.
• Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and construction accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience with construction accounting systems such as Spectrum, Vista, Sage 300, or similar.
• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Abington, MA.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and general ledger reporting.
• Maintain accurate WIP schedules, job-cost reporting, and GAAP revenue recognition.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting including A/P, A/R, and payroll.
• Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
• Oversee weekly certified payroll for union employees and ensure compliance with union benefits, dues, fringe contributions, and prevailing wage requirements.
• Maintain job cost reporting and monitor project profitability.
• Partner with Project Managers on change orders, billings, retainage, budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete analysis.
• Coordinate annual audits, bonding requirements, banking relationships, and insurance audits.
• Implement and maintain strong internal controls and improve accounting processes.
• Manage and mentor accounting staff.
