Job summary

Grassi Client, a confidential demolition and construction firm in Brooklyn, seeks an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function on site. The role focuses on accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and hands-on leadership of the accounting team.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in construction accounting, expertise in job costing and WIP, and CPA preferred but not required. This onsite, senior role reports to ownership and partners closely with auditors and tax

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Construction industry experience is required.
• Demolition, heavy civil, specialty contracting, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, WIP schedules, financial statement preparation, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the company and affiliated entities.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Supervise and support the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
• Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure accurate job costing, project accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Partner with ownership and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other financial partners.
• Monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements.
• Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accountability.
