Job summary

Norcon, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Controller to serve as the company’s financial leader, overseeing accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasts. This Chicago-based role partners with Principals and operations to sustain long-term financial health.

The position requires office presence in Chicago, ESOP environment, and extensive experience in construction accounting and leadership. Join a dedicated team focused on client excellence and operational integrity.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
• Knowledge of construction contracts, billing, retainage, bonding, insurance, and related financial requirements.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate financial risk and performance.
• Ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights for leadership.
• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems; CMiC familiarity preferred.
• Experience overseeing union payroll, reporting, and compliance.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
• Proven leadership and communication skills with cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to balance hands-on accounting with broader financial analysis and business support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Norcon’s financial leader and primary advisor to Principals and leadership.
• Lead the accounting function and supervise the accounting team.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and reporting.
• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
• Oversee AP/AR, payroll, equipment accounting, and fixed assets.
• Maintain internal controls, policies, and processes.
• Monitor cash flow, forecast needs, and oversee collections and payments.
• Manage job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition where applicable.
• Review project budgets, profitability, gross margins, and performance vs estimates.
• Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions and business planning.
• Coordinate year-end audit and act as primary contact for external partners.
• Oversee tax compliance and maintain ERP dashboards and reporting tools.
• Identify process improvements for accounting and project management.
