Job summary

Martin Painting & Coating Co. is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a $20M commercial/industrial painting contractor. You will own financial reporting, job costing, and internal controls, and serve as a key advisor to ownership on financial strategy.

This ESOP-owned firm values clear communication of results to employee-owners. Responsibilities include managing WIP, job costing, billing, closings, and external audits while guiding a finance team and improving

Qualifications

Experience leading an accounting function for a contractor, with focus on WIP and milestones.
Ability to manage multi-state tax and payroll as applicable.
Strong internal controls and financial reporting experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules and recognize percentage-of-completion revenue.
Oversee project job costing—labor, materials, subcontractors, overhead.
Review change orders and update contract values and cost tracking.
Manage progress billing, retainage, and lien waivers.
Collaborate with PMs to reconcile cost reports and flag margins.
Monitor backlog, underbilling and overbilling positions.
Own month/quarter/year close; supervise AP/AR, payroll, GL, reconciliations.
Develop internal controls, policies, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
Interface with auditors, sureties, banking relationships.
Support ESOP valuation and communicate results to employee-owners.
