Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Analyst to lead and implement configuration management across VA software projects. The role is remote, with responsibilities spanning CM tooling, release engineering, and process standardization to ensure compliant builds and smooth deployments.

The ideal candidate brings deep CM expertise, strong scripting abilities, and experience in regulated federal environments.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex software builds and releases across environments.
• Experience in large, regulated federal environments.
• Deep expertise in configuration management and release engineering.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Experience with source control systems and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Managing COTS software, vendor patches, and version control.
• Infrastructure as code and environment management (Ansible, Terraform).
• Knowledge of software quality standards and training developers on CM tools.
• Proficiency with work management tools (JIRA, Azure Boards, Trello) and documentation tools (Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart).
• Understanding of database concepts and build reproducibility.
• Strong analytical skills for investigating build failures and deployment issues.
• Excellent communication and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentoring and collaboration; manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software and COTS.
• Perform CM and release engineering to document builds and ensure compliance with configurations.
• Design, automate, and maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Design and implement build procedures to support product development and use.
• Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
• Train software developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
