Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Engineer to lead CM and release activities in a remote U.S. position supporting VA programs.

You will implement CM tools, automate build processes, and guide teams to ensure compliant, repeatable software configurations and deployments. The role requires strong CM expertise, experience in regulated environments, and excellent collaboration across stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and delivering complex builds/releases across multiple environments.
• Experience in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Experience with Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, Subversion.
• Experience with CI/CD tools: Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, and artifact repos Nexus/Artifactory.
• Scripting for automation: Bash, PowerShell, Python.
• Experience with Infrastructure as code: Ansible, Terraform.
• Strong understanding of software quality standards and training developers on CM tools.
• Proficiency with JIRA/Azure Boards, Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart.
• Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software
• Perform CM and release tasks ensuring parameters align with hardware configurations.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Design and implement build procedures for software development and use.
• Develop CM standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
