Job summary

NVIDIA is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to join the computational engineering team. You will design GPU-native numerical methods to accelerate engineering simulations across NVIDIA platforms, exploring solver algorithms and building research prototypes that scale on multi-GPU systems.

The role combines numerical analysis, accelerated computing, and production-minded software engineering, with emphasis on cross-disciplinary work across math, code, hardware, and real engineering

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent experience in computational mechanics, applied mathematics, scientific computing, computer science, aerospace, mechanical, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant work/research experience.
  • Experience with PDE discretization, finite element/volume, DG methods, nonlinear solvers, sparse linear algebra, preconditioning, or HPC.
  • Experience writing numerical software in C++ and Python, plus CUDA or GPU code development/optimization.
  • Experience using profiling, benchmarking, numerical validation, or performance analysis on GPUs or multi-GPU systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and collaborate across research, engineering, product, and partner teams.

Responsibilities

  • Invent and reformulate numerical algorithms co-designed for modern NVIDIA GPU architectures, including implicit and explicit engineering simulation.
  • Develop linear and nonlinear solver approaches, including Newton-Krylov, multigrid/AMG, domain decomposition, matrix-free, mixed precision and sparse methods.
  • Explore GPU-focused reformulations of CPU-based algorithms, including synchronization-avoiding Krylov methods and matrix-free implicit methods.
  • Evaluate algorithms on workloads in mechanics, thermal-fluid systems, electromagnetics, semiconductor process and device simulation, EDA, multiphysics.
  • Collaborate with CUDA-X, Warp, solver engineering, NVIDIA Research and partners to move research from prototype to production software.
