Job summary

The University of Rochester seeks a Lead Computational Scientist to advance research computing across disciplines. You will architect and develop high-performance software, port and optimize applications for GPUs, clusters and cloud environments, and collaborate with faculty, students and staff.

You will teach workshops, mentor researchers, and contribute to publications, simulations, data analytics, and pipelines. A PhD with computational focus and 3 years of related experience is required.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline with a computational focus and 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience with computer simulations, data analytics, computational tools, HPC software and/or supercomputing hardware.
  • Experience designing, writing and porting scientific applications.
  • Experience developing computational tools and constructing data analysis pipelines.
  • Experience developing or debugging software and using software management systems.
  • Experience conducting and/or publishing research preferred.
  • Experience supervising research students preferred.
  • Experience as a faculty member or educator preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides research support for integrating computing hardware and software tools across disciplines.
  • Develops, ports, installs and optimizes software for HPC and data-intensive architectures, including GPUs and cloud environments.
  • Teaches workshops and tutorials on scientific programming and data analysis.
  • Guides students and collaborators to assist with research project development and implementation.
  • Develops, maintains and improves department computing and visualization infrastructure.
  • Consults on computational research project design and implementation.
