Job summary

Firehawk Aerospace, based in Addison, TX, seeks a Design Engineer specializing in composite structures to design and develop advanced composite components for munitions and propulsion systems. You will report to the Design Engineering Manager and collaborate across Design, Analysis, Testing, and Manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will lead structural design efforts, create CAD models, and optimize layup strategies while ensuring producibility, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, materials engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design with composite focus.
• 3+ years CAD experience (CREO preferred).
• Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing (hand layup, autoclave cure, filament winding, RTM).
• GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Lead/mentor engineers in design of rocket motor structures with emphasis on composites.
• Create/modify CAD models and drawings for parts and tooling.
• Develop layup schedules and fiber orientation strategies.
• Coordinate with analysis/fluids/manufacturing/testing teams for producibility.
• Support manufacturing operations for composite processes.
• Make project decisions based on merit, cost, and schedule.
