Job summary

Firehawk Aerospace is seeking a Senior Design Engineer for Huntsville, AL or Addison, TX to lead the design and development of solid and hybrid rocket propulsion systems. You will mentor engineers, create CAD models, and coordinate analysis, manufacturing, and testing to meet customer specs and research objectives.

The role requires deep missile/rocket motor knowledge, 10+ years in mechanical design, and strong communication across teams. Occasional travel and ITAR compliance are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience with missile and/or solid rocket motor design.
• 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical design.
• 10+ years of experience with CREO (preferred), SOLIDWORKS, NX, or CATIA.
• Proficient with GD&T, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability.
• Experience with PLM software (Windchill preferred).
• Strong understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of mechanical systems.
• Capable of managing project efforts and solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead/mentor other engineers in design and development of solid/hybrid rocket systems.
• Create/modify CAD models and drawings.
• Support design, development, and production of rocket engines/motors.
• Collaborate with analysis/fluids/manufacturing/testing teams to iterate designs.
• Make project decisions based on technical merit, cost, and schedule metrics.
• Analyze and interpret test data to improve propulsion systems.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to meet goals.
• Ensure propulsion systems comply with regulations and safety standards.
