Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in a scientific discipline with 6+ years of related experience or a Master’s with 4+ years.
• Formal animal technician training or AALAS LAT certification.
• Experience with nonhuman primates and agricultural species is desirable.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a high containment environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of biosafety, biosurety, and decontamination desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists in day-to-day technical coordination for Comparative Medicine staff.
• Mentors staff and provides training and cross-training.
• Performs veterinary procedures and post-operative care for research animals.
• Develops and maintains SOPs, work instructions, and forms.
• Ensures quality management and proper documentation.
• Operates and maintains lab equipment with proper reagents and supplies.
• Works as part of a team to validate methods for identifying biological threat agents.

Education

Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline

Master’s degree in a related field

AALAS LAT certification

Biocontainment facilities knowledge

Strong communication and organizational skills
