Job summary

San Mateo County Libraries is seeking a Senior Community Program Specialist to lead adult literacy services and programming across 13 libraries. The role focuses on designing, delivering, and evaluating programs that advance literacy, learning, access, and community connection, with multilingual offerings.

The successful candidate will report to the Library Services Manager, guide staff and partners, and help the organization learn and adapt through thoughtful program design and assessment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Library Science, Public Administration, Community Development, Education, or related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in community programming, library services, public outreach, or related fields.
• Experience coordinating programs, developing partnerships, and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve services that inspire learning, strengthen connection, and respond to community needs.
• Build relationships with staff, partners, and community members.
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, and carry out programming, workshops, and events.
• Provide training and support for library staff working in program areas.
• Coordinate outreach activities to community groups and agencies.
