Job summary

Prince George’s County Government seeks a supervisory principal for Community Development. The role focuses on community liaison, development, advocacy, and social services across diverse populations, including youth, aging, housing, and health.

Incumbents manage subordinate staff and apply independent judgment to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes. Reporting to higher-level officials, the position emphasizes strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and program oversight.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field as listed above.
• Three (3) years of responsible professional technical, analytical, and developmental work experience with at least one (1) year in a lead/supervisory role.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.
• Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex principal professional community development work within a major programmatically section/division in support of higher-level officials.
• Plans and coordinates the activities of a major and complex community development project from inception to completion in accordance with local, state and federal codes.
• Plans and leads the work of personnel engaged in collection and analysis of socio-economic and other pertinent information.
• Assists in the preparation of budgets for the assigned program or project.
• Coordinates the preparation of reports requested by higher authorities in support of respective programs or projects.
• Reviews rules and regulations and seeks input from subordinates to ensure programs comply with established procedures and standards and recommends changes where appropriate.
• Develop strategic plans and orient internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
• Provide oversight services funded by grants and reimbursable by insurers.
• Establish common performance measures for diverse programs within and outside of the division.

Education

Master's degree in Business or Public Administration, Social Service, Sociology, Psychology, or closely related field
