Qualifications

  • 7+ years of work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, supply chain, or materials.

  • Proven negotiator with favorable results.
  • Understanding of contract terms and ability to draft supply contracts.
  • Experience sourcing for new product development and supplier management.
  • Advanced analysis of large data sets and presenting findings.

  • Influence supplier behavior to PACCAR requirements.
  • Knowledge of market research and sourcing strategies.

Requisition Summary

PACCAR is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to join a strong and growing Purchasing team.In this role, one will negotiate and manage all aspects of PACCAR’s relationship with suppliers, including the commercial/contractual requirements with respect to total cost, technology, delivery, customer service, aftermarket support, logistics and quality. Commodity Managers are change agents, focused on delivering the highest value to internal and external customers at the lowest total cost.

A successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding time management, organizational skills, and the ability to run multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.This position will be based out of the PACCAR Corporate Office located in Bellevue, WA.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Develop, negotiate, and implement strategies resulting in effective cost management,improved supply chain performance and enhanced product quality.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and implement new strategic procurement and logistics opportunities.
  • Negotiate and ensure supplier compliance to long‑term supply and warranty agreements.
  • Issue formal Requests for Information, Proposals and Quotes (RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs) and analyze responses to select suppliers that meet or exceed PACCAR requirements
  • Collaborate with PACCAR operations teams to successfully develop and execute global supply chain and commodity strategies.
  • Organize and conduct supplier performance management (SPM) meetings, other cross‑functional meetings, and formal presentations with suppliers, plant, and division personnel at all management levels.
  • Travel to supplier locations to evaluate capabilities, assess production readiness, investigate new opportunities, improve manufacturing efficiencies and resolve chronic supply and quality issues.
  • Travel to PACCAR’s operating locations in support of the above activities

Qualifications & Skills

  • 7+ years of work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, supply chain, or materials.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to various levels of management and suppliers.
  • Experienced negotiator with demonstrated favorable results.
  • Possess a strong understanding of fundamental contract terms and be able to draft supply contracts.
  • Experience with sourcing to support new product development and develop sourcing strategies. Successfully manage supplier through all phases of a product development program.
  • Perform advanced analysis on large data sets using Excel, draw salient conclusions from such analysis, and cogently present analysis to management.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement cost savings projects.
  • Ability to direct oneself and act with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to influence supplier behavior to meet PACCAR requirements.
  • Possess an understanding of cost drivers and how changes in those drivers affect cost.
  • Ability to conduct market research to identify and evaluate potential new suppliers.
  • Ability to develop sourcing strategies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, supply chain management, or related field.
  • Masters Degree or MBA (preferred).
  • CPSM Certification (preferred).
