Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead testing, commissioning, and energization for utility-scale HV substations, BESS, and PV facilities. This role is fully remote with some travel and acts as the senior technical authority on commissioning while mentoring staff.

You will develop energization strategies, review protection schemes, and ensure compliance with project specs and industry standards. Collaboration with Owners, Utilities, OEMs, and Field Services is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
Minimum of 10 years testing, commissioning, and energization of utility-scale HV substations, BESS, and PV facilities.
Minimum of 5 years leading or serving as primary technical engineer for commissioning on complex projects.
Minimum of 2 years engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
Experience with protection, control, relay testing, harmonic analysis, and interconnection requirements.
Experience mentoring engineering staff and developing commissioning plans and procedures.

Responsibilities

Attend meetings with owners, utilities and stakeholders as requested by the Commissioning Manager.
Develop Testing & Commissioning plans aligned with project specs and interconnection requirements.
Create, review and execute Initial Energization Procedures for HV substations, BESS and PV systems.
Serve as engineering authority for complex commissioning issues and technical evaluation.
Review protection philosophies, relay settings and commissioning strategies for readiness.
Lead and coordinate substation energization activities and field operations.
Perform high voltage switching operations as required for energization.
Review and approve commissioning reports and acceptance test results, addressing non-conformances.
Develop training documentation and deliver onsite training to Owners and Operations staff.
Provide post-energization support, including monitoring and troubleshooting.
Lead investigations of post-trip events and document root cause findings.
Track corrective actions to closure and verify effectiveness.
