Job summary

Old Republic Bitco is seeking a Senior Underwriter to evaluate commercial insurance applications and drive profitable new and renewal business within an assigned agency territory. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication, and effective territory management.

You will mentor less experienced underwriters and foster agency partnerships. The role requires experience in underwriting commercial lines, managing exposures, and achieving sales budgets

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a business-related field.
• 5–10 years in field underwriting with construction experience; oil & gas desired.
• Experience pricing, policy forms, and coverage for commercial lines.
• Ability to analyze exposures and manage risk over policy periods.
• Experience growing agency relationships and managing agency profitability.
• External sales experience with client and agency presentations.

Responsibilities

• Decide to accept, decline, or modify applications and monitor exposure changes.
• Quote and negotiate prices for new and renewal business with policy forms.
• Manage agencies, grow relationships, and optimize profitability and credit.
• Travel to perform sales, marketing, and territory maintenance as needed.
• Solicit new business and retain renewal business via agency/customer presentations.
• Develop profitable underwriting results and oversee sales development.
• Plan budgets, set premium and loss ratio goals, and forecast business.
• Maintain proactive agency visits and reviews to strengthen relationships.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters and support non-technical tasks.
