Job summary

Acuity is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to select, retain and price commercial insurance risks in line with underwriting policies. The role emphasizes counsel and collaboration with agents to grow a profitable book of business within Acuity's operating territory.

Required are at least five years of experience as a commercial underwriter, a college degree (CPCU/CIC preferred), and strong knowledge of rating programs and coverage laws.

Qualifications

• College degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• CPCU, CIC or similar insurance designations preferred.
• At least five years experience as a commercial underwriter.
• Ability to underwrite large, complex commercial lines accounts.
• High level of expertise in rating programs, coverage laws, and regulations.
• Demonstrates the ability to be innovative in suggesting alternatives in pricing and coverage.
• Strong ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Reviews quotes and applications for commercial lines and obtains underwriting information.
• Reviews renewal business and determines pricing and terms.
• Monitors in-force business and ensures continued risk acceptability.
• Maintains relationships with agents, Sales, and other Acuity personnel.
• Recommends additional coverages and policy amendments for profitability.
• Communicates underwriting decisions clearly to protect agency relationships.
• Prices commercial lines to be competitive and adequate for risk.
