Job summary

Great American Insurance Group is seeking a Commercial Surety Underwriter. The candidate could be in Schaumburg, Illinois, or Cincinnati, Ohio, with a hybrid work arrangement and some travel within the territory.

The role involves analyzing reports, pricing risk, and managing profitability for the branch. You will develop relationships with stakeholders, communicate effectively, and drive superior customer service while upholding underwriting standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Finance/Accounting or related field.
• 5+ years of underwriting or risk assessment experience.
• Progression toward professional certifications (AFSB, CPA, RPLU) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand and analyze business reports needed in the underwriting processes, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements.
• Responsible for risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for their branch.
• Assess risk quality in compliance with company guidelines.
• Review the underwriting of others and make recommendations for extending surety credit including the terms and conditions.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively.
• Must be highly organized to handle a variety of responsibilities.
• Deliver exceptional customer service.
• Make timely, informed decisions.
• Coach and develop team.
