Job summary

Great American Insurance Group’s Bond Division seeks a Commercial Surety Head Underwriter to lead underwriting operations and guide strategic growth. The role requires regular in-office presence and travel to approved markets.

The position demands 10–15 years in surety underwriting with at least 5 years in leadership, and a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Relocation to Cincinnati or other approved locations may be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Generally, a minimum of 10-15 years of surety underwriting experience, including a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
• Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Financial Products Underwriting operations, improving workflow efficiency and maintaining high productivity.
• Develop and implement strategic plans for the Production Underwriting team, aligning with business goals.
• Oversee assessment of underwritten risk quality and volume and prepare reports with key insights.
• Leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive profitable growth.
• Guide assessment of policy renewals and modifications, recommending improvements and risk mitigation.
• Monitor reports on service levels and customer experience to implement improvements.
• Oversee product and service promotions aligning with growth objectives and engagement.
• Oversee underwriting rules, rating manual guidelines, and insurance regulations.

Education
