Job summary

Cardinal Health in the United States seeks a Senior Legal Counsel to serve as the primary legal partner to leaders of a division, providing counsel on legal issues and risk mitigation. The role supports domestic and international business relationships, drafts and negotiates commercial contracts, and collaborates with Litigation, Privacy, Regulatory Counsel, and Compliance teams to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Law degree with a record of high academic achievement in undergraduate and law school
• License to practice law
• Candidates with at least 5 years of experience in a large complex organization or nationally recognized law firm preferred
• Commercial/transactional experience required; knowledge of healthcare law preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; acute attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, diplomacy and flexibility, with ability to interface across levels in the company
• Self-starter with urgency, able to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Strong business acumen and ability to diagnose legal problems and propose solutions

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and pragmatic legal advice and guidance to contracting business clients across the enterprise based on advanced knowledge of commercial transactions and relevant laws
• Draft and negotiate contracts and terms with external parties
• Handle fast paced and high-volume workload
• Identify legal and compliance issues and business risks and elevate them as needed
• Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
• Collaborate with Litigation, Privacy, Regulatory Counsel, and Compliance teams
• Develop and maintain knowledge of current regulations, cases, trends and best practices
• Resolve legal issues in collaboration with internal teams and business leaders
• Provide client service and counsel division leaders on a range of legal issues
• Negotiate terms with external parties to achieve favorable outcomes
• Review and revise external party terms and manage iterations of agreements
• Review marketing and public relations communications for product information compliance
• Support Litigation team as needed during litigation matters
• Advise on risk mitigation in strategic planning and daily business decisions
