Job summary

Appraisal Institute is seeking an experienced appraiser/reviewer to join our Appraisals Team in the New York metropolitan area. The role focuses on reviewing third‑party appraisals to form credible opinions of market value for commercial real estate in support of mortgage lending processes.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years of experience, a NY State General Appraiser Certification license in good standing, and a relevant bachelor’s degree. Salary ranges from $95K to $135K annually.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of recent experience appraising or reviewing complex properties.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field preferred.
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to solve problems with non-standardized variables.
• New York State General Appraiser Certification License (Current and in Good Standing) required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook.
• Familiarity with office, retail, multifamily, and cooperative properties in the NY Metropolitan Area.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of RealQuest, CoStar, and MLS databases.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze completed appraisal reports for income-producing properties (multifamily, office, mixed-use, retail).
• Ensure valuations are credible, compliant with USPAP, FIRREA, bank policies and industry standards.
• Opine on reasonableness and reliability of appraisal reports received.
• Review and approve appraisals performed by third-party vendors.
• Complete internal appraisal assignments for loan underwriting decisions.
• Advise Loan Officers and Executive Management on appraisal matters.
• Conduct property site inspections as needed.
• Perform other duties as required by the Bank and Department.
