Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in collections, with at least 3 years in management or leadership role.
• Experience in tax-related collections (sales/use tax, tobacco, business licenses)
• Strong understanding of collection practices and regulations
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage a diverse team and work independently
• Advanced Excel capabilities including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 20-25 collections specialists.
• Oversee collection of unsubmitted local tax returns for various tax types.
• Submit placements to a third-party vendor for external collection efforts as needed.
• Monitor and drive team performance metrics to ensure efficient, effective, and budgeted collections.
• Work with internal teams to identify and resolve collection issues.
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to tax collections.
• Assist in developing strategies to improve collection rates and reduce aged receivables.
• Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and enhance the collection strategy.
• Provide ongoing training and development for the collections team.
• Track and report on team performance, setting goals and improving productivity.
• Ad hoc duties as assigned.
• Partner with IT to ensure systems accuracy and support updates to the system.
• Partner with internal departments to ensure customer service standards.
• Motivating and monitoring monthly budget goals to ensure targets are met.
• Developing and maintaining incentive programs reporting outcomes to Director of Operations and VP.
• Coaching and counseling of direct reports
• Training and cross-training of current and new staff to improve productivity and collections.
• Working with third-party collections companies to ensure productive efforts and updates to correspondence.
• Weekly, monthly, annual reporting of goals and productivity
• Annual performance reviews of staff
• Working directly with clients to ensure timely data receipt.
